Size
Forklifts can lift very heavy objects since they have a counterweight on the rear of the forklift. The giant counterweight gives balance to the forklift so the machine doesn't tip over when carrying heavy loads. Forklifts are rated based on their load capacity. A small lift truck which could carry 1800 kilograms weighs roughly 4000 kilograms, which is the same as two full-size pickup trucks. The largest forklifts can carry things as heavy as 36,000 kilograms.

Considerations
There are many safety concerns involved in utilizing a lift truck. When driving down a ramp, travel in reverse. If the load interferes with vision and is bulky, haul it in reverse. Operators have to be familiar with how to safely mount the lift using the "three-point stance." This involves putting the right hand on the back of the seat, while gripping the upright of the safety cage with the left hand and putting the left foot on the step. Never jump out of a forklift even during a tip over. It is actually safer to remain inside the confines of the lift. Any fall or slip on a forklift could cause serious injuries.

In lots of industries, the lift truck is considered an indispensable as they are required to quickly lift and transport goods, unload and load products safely and with little to no physical exertion. Pedestrian safety is a major consideration when operating in public spaces. Operators should always give pedestrians the right-of-way. A lift truck should never be driven on a highway or on uneven surfaces. The driver should have a seat belt firmly fastened at all times while driving.
